Description

This hard cover, A4 book with 324 pages replete with illustrations is the result of extensive research and arises from the author’s lifelong passion for drama.  Cheryl, an SDHS member, has enjoyed a long career in many aspects of drama commencing with a role in a 1958 production of A Must for Dolly by Jack Beresford Fowler at the Arrow Theatre, Middle Park. She graduated in 2019 from Swinburne University of Technology as a Doctor of Philosophy based on her research into Victorian Amateur Theatre.

Part One of the book commences in New South Wales in 1788, continuing to modern-day. Respectful acknowledgement is made of live cultural performances presented by First Nations People for their communities over 60,000 years. Part Two contains stories from 129 currently operating Victorian theatre companies.  It has been described as a wonderful companion to lockdown and will make a wonderful Christmas present.
