On the west side of Station Street are two former banks.
The fi rst one, at 42 Station Street, is the former State Savings Bank, or SSB, as it was known. Designed in a Federation Free Classical Style, the facade expresses a post and lintel structure using pilasters to divide it into three equal bays, with round arched openings on the ground fl oor and rectangular openings on the fi rst fl oor. The parapet is composed of an open balustrade with urns at each end.
The second one, at 46 Station Street, is the former National Bank. It is in a bold Inter-War Free Classical style. The large and imposing parapet has not been changed but, at pedestrian level, a large plate glass window has been introduced.
