Alan Marshall was known for writing many books, but the most famous one was called ‘I Can Jump Puddles‘, the fi rst of a threepart autobiography which sold over eight million copies and was fi lmed for cinema and television.
He suff ered from polio when he was six years old, which resulted in a permanent need to use crutches. His book is about his determination to overcome it and live a full life.
He initially worked as an accountant but, in 1935, he began working as a freelance writer. Numerous works were published over the years, including a biography of Melbourne businessman, Sidney Myer.
He loved writing about the natural world, particularly from the point of view of children.
He lived in many parts of Victoria but, it is in Edward Street, Sandringham, where he did most of his writing. He died in a nursing home in Brighton.
