Name/TitleSandringham Bowls Club, Inaugural Opening of Beach Reserve Green
About this objectTwo versions of a montage showing the opening of the Sandringham Bowling Club (as it was known until 1969) at its new location, Beach Reserve, Sandringham (opposite Abbott Street). About 400 attended and the the Mayor, Mr H. B. Grace, who was also the Club President, rolled the first bowl. The green had eight rinks. The Club had relocated from the Mechanics’ Institute, known locally then as Sandringham Hall, and now as the Masonic Hall, in Abbott Street. The montage also shows ladies from the Sandringham Croquet Club which was adjacent to the Bowling Club. They allowed access to their pavilion as the Bowling Club’s had not yet been erected.
P12608-1: The original copy of the montage, of poor quality and with the top of the upper photo missing.
P12608-2: A digitally enhanced version of the montage, cropped to only include complete photos.
