Name/TitleSandringham Baseball Club closed during the pandemic
About this objectMeasures were taken from the outset of the pandemic to limit physical contact and community mobility, to reduce transmission of the virus. During lockdowns this meant restrictions were imposed on how Victorians could exercise and take part in sport.
Baseball clubs were closed during Melbourne’s lockdowns. When they reopened various rules applied from time to time. These included permitting training only; limiting group sizes; closing covered batting tunnels; banning spectators; and banning team meetings, on field huddles or game discussion. Whenever hospitality venues had to close, this applied to clubhouses too.
The photos were taken just before the end of Melbourne’s sixth lockdown of Sandringham Baseball Club, Tulip Street, Sandringham. It was closed at the time. The signs showing COVID safety measures in place related to the period between lockdowns when play was permitted, subject to restrictions. Similarly, a sign on the clubhouse door sets out measures in place which applied when it was open.
Outdoor training was permitted again from 22 October 2021, with limited numbers.
