Name/TitlePerspex screens at supermarket checkouts during the pandemic
About this objectDuring the COVID-19 pandemic everyone, even when well, was called on to help slow the spread of the virus. It became common for stores to erect Perspex screens at checkouts, as protection between staff and customers. Supermarkets also erected screens between self-serve checkouts, and had a member of staff on duty to clean the touch screens between customers.
The photo shows screens in place to form a barrier between customers and checkout operators at Woolworths, Hampton. There is a note on the screen advising they are to safeguard everyone. Another sign reminds customers of social distancing requirements in the store.
