Name/TitleNotice during the pandemic no towels available, Victoria Golf Club
About this objectDuring the COVID-19 pandemic everyone, even when well, was called on to help slow the spread of the virus. Initially it was thought contaminated surfaces were a major means of transmission. This led to health authorities giving several instructions to Australians such as to wash hands; use alcohol-based hand sanitisers; avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth; cough and sneeze into a tissue or elbow; clean and disinfect surfaces and objects they used often; and never share drink bottles, glasses, crockery or cutlery, other than with people they lived with. Later, airborne transmission was identified as also causing the virus to spread.
The photo shows a sign displayed at Victoria Golf Club advising that, to safeguard everyone’s health, no towels were available in the showers. It was taken on the first day golf clubs had been able to reopen after Melbourne’s first lockdown. Clubhouses and facilities were however still closed, except for access to toilets.
