Name/TitleInaugural Hampton Farmers Market
About this objectThe first Hampton Farmers Market was held on Sunday 21 March 2021 at Willis Lane, Hampton (behind Woolworths). Organised by Sandringham Rotary Club, it ran monthly, every third Sunday morning, and was seen as contributing to the reinvigorating of Hampton Street after the COVID-19 lockdowns. Bayside Council later reported that that over 1200 attended the inaugural market.
The market’s website listed a few community benefits, including: ‘local traders will benefit from people travelling to the market and spending time there and on Hampton Street’ and ‘stallholders who have been “doing it tough” in COVID-19 will benefit from revenue and exposure’.
The two photos are of the first market, showing stalls and shoppers.
