Name/TitleCOVID-safe shopping arrangements, Sole Mechanics, Hampton
About this objectThe retail sector was adversely impacted right from the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Only essential retail could remain open during Melbourne’s lockdowns. When stores reopened from 13 March 2020 after the first lockdown, they had to adopt COVID-safe practices to protect staff and customers. These included complying with density limits of customers in a store at any one time and additional cleaning obligations.
The photo shows the approach taken by Sole Mechanics, Hampton Street, Hampton. They offered a new way of shoe shopping: book an appointment online; arrive 5 minutes early, use hand sanitiser and be socially distanced in store.
