Name/TitleCustomers using QR code to check-in, Woolworths
About this objectAs businesses reopened in May 2020 after Melbourne’s first COVID-19 lockdown, recordkeeping requirements were introduced to support contact tracing. Health officials attempted to trace close contacts of anyone infected, assisted by the records kept at venues. They then advised those contacts of the need to test and isolate.
Later in 2020, venues were encouraged to use electronic recordkeeping or QR codes. In 2021, electronic recordkeeping was mandated and, from June that year, Service Vic QR codes had to be used.
Around Bayside, people could be seen standing at the entrances of venues, using their smartphones to check-in. These photos show customers checking-in to enter Woolworths, Hampton.
