Name/TitleCOVID-19 vaccinations in progress, Southend Medical Clinic
About this objectScientists around the world worked urgently in 2020 to develop safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines in record time. Worldwide, the first vaccination program started early in December 2020. In Australia, the program began in February 2021, initially using Pfizer and AstraZeneca. Each needed two doses.
The photos show the vaccination arrangements at Southend Medical Clinic, Hampton. Twelve bookings were made at a time, with patients waiting in physically distanced chairs, each with an assigned number. All wore masks and were called for their vaccinations by seat numbers. The television screen to the rear of the waiting room shows one of the many press conferences that were screened live during the pandemic, attracting large audiences. This one was being held by the Premier of New South Wales.
