About this objectGolf clubs closed in March 2020 during Melbourne’s first COVID-19 lockdown. They reopened in May 2020 subject to safety guidelines. The photo shows the guidelines displayed outside the Proshop at Cheltenham Golf Club.
Members were told not to congregate, so as to mitigate the risk of transmission of the virus. In any event, public gatherings were limited to a maximum of 10 at the time and everyone had to maintain a social distance from each other. Additionally, the guidelines set out measures such as asking players to leave the course as soon as they finished playing and limiting access to the clubhouse. Clubhouses were still closed, except for access to toilets.
Procedures were also put in place ensure proper hygiene. These covered, for example, players keeping their own scorecards, always leaving the flagstick in, and not using rakes in bunkers.
