About this objectThe World Health Organization declared a COVID-19 pandemic on 19 March 2020. In Victoria, the government declared a state of emergency on 16 March. Organisations took steps to protect everyone and, on 18 March, Golf Victoria cancelled the Victorian pennant season.
On 19 March 2020, Golf Australia announced temporary measures to allow clubs to modify rules to ensure proper hygiene. These covered, for example, players keeping their own scorecards, leaving the flagstick in at all times, and not using rakes in bunkers.
Cheltenham Golf Club adopted interim safety measure on 18 March 2020; the photo shows one of the notices displayed at the club explaining those measures. Subsequently, on 26 March, all golf clubs in Victoria had to close.
