Name/Title‘Staying apart keeps us together’ advertising sign
About this objectCommunication from governments and health authorities played an essential role in securing and maintaining community support during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Victorian government frequently used the slogan ‘staying apart keeps us together’ as part of this messaging. This LED sign was in Martin Street, Gardenvale.
Staying apart took various forms. The aim was to slow transmission of the virus and reduce demands on the health system. The virus could spread through coughing, sneezing and close contact. Australians were told to keep their distance, staying at least 1.5 metres away from others where possible. At the time of the photo, public gatherings outside were limited to two people, other than from the same household. People were not allowed to have visitors to their homes and there were only four permitted reasons for leaving home.
