Name/TitleSelf-service checkout closed for social distancing, Woolworths
About this objectDuring the COVID-19 pandemic everyone, even when well, was called on to help slow the spread of the virus. Social distancing was one of the key actions everyone was asked to follow. Australians were told to keep their distance, staying at least 1.5 metres away from others where possible. The aim was to slow transmission of the virus and reduce demands on the health system.
At the outset in March 2020, supermarkets quickly took steps to implement social distancing in their stores. One such step taken by Woolworths, Hampton was to close off every other self-service checkout and place a ‘checkout closed’ box on those not in use. Later they erected Perspex screens between checkouts.
