Name/TitleCOVID-19 safety LED signage, Black Rock
About this objectCommunication from authorities played an essential role in securing and maintaining community support during the COVID-19 pandemic. Australians lived with restrictions never before encountered.
LED signage at Beach Road, Black Rock displayed four messages in rotation, shown in the photos: ‘Follow current stay safe directions’; ‘Be COVID safe’; ‘Avoid busy areas’ and Stay 1.5 m apart’.
When Melbourne was locked down, the government issued Ssay at home directions. Stay safe directions were in force at other times. They were less restrictive but sought still to limit Melburnians’ interactions with others by placing restrictions on gatherings and the return to workplaces.
Social distancing was one of the key actions everyone was asked to follow during the pandemic. Australians were told to keep their distance, staying at least 1.5 metres away from others where possible. People were told to avoid busy areas as the risk of transmission was greater. For this reason, public gatherings were restricted throughout the pandemic.
