Name/TitleBayside Library Express, return chute closed during lockdown
About this objectBayside’s four libraries were closed during each of Melbourne’s COVID-19 lockdowns, although click and collect services were put in place from September 2020. Alternatively, library members could make use of Bayside’s ‘Library at Your Door’ delivery service or ask a library to hold items until it reopened.
Sandringham Library closed in July 2019 for an upgrade and a new maternal and child health centre. Work started the following month. A temporary library facility, known as the Library Express, operated from 92 Station Street, Sandringham. Customers could return items and place orders online, for collection at the temporary facility.
The photo shows the return chute outside the Library Express. At the time, Melbourne’s second lockdown was in place and libraries were closed. The library notice on the chute advised customers to hold on to their items at home until they reopened, confirming that late return charges would not apply.
